Description
2001: A Space Odyssey. A great movie complimented by a great book. This model was fun to make and was very photogenic. I hope you enjoy this and find a place to put it on your shelf next to your Sci-Fi books. I chose PLA-CF Black for the box as I felt is gave it a great look and texture. I left the monolith as PLA Basic Black to try and get more of a smooth look to it. This model is made with a swappable ground surface. Grey for the moon and tan for the desert from the beginning of the movie/book. I will post a profile for the tan colored ground as well. See instructions below.

Attach the LED Lamp Light holder to the back of the box using a thin bead of glue. The top of the holder needs to sit at 59.03mm from the bottom of the box if you have a pair of calipers handy. Otherwise the general idea if to ensure the entirety of the LED light fills the circular slit in the box to achieve that eclipse-look. I did add a notch for the LED lamp light cable, you can use if you'd like. However this secures the light permanently to this model. I liked being able to just pop the light in and let the cable come out of the top. This allows you to be able to resuse the light if you'd like.
After this you need to place your monolith. You will need to insert the ground piece to help you line up placement for the monolith. The ground piece can be laid in either direction. Add a couple lines of glue on the bottom of the monolith and hold it in place in the rectangular opening of the ground piece. Try your best to hold the monolith still and completely level. After you believe the monolith is set and not moving you should be able to slide the ground piece off.
I chose not to glue or secure the ground piece as the monolith keeps it in place and allows it to be swapped with the tan/grey color.
After this, insert your LED lamp light if you haven't already inserted it through the cable notch earlier.
