Description

This is a custom drawer insert set designed specifically for the Kobalt Mini Tool Box. The goal was to maximize usable space while keeping small tools, bits, and hardware neatly organized and easy to access.

This is my first fully original CAD design, created from the ground up and tested for real world use in the Kobalt Mini Tool Box. It may work for other similar toolboxes, however it has been verified that this design does NOT work with Harbor Freight mini toolboxes due to a rivet located at the back of each drawer.

What’s Included

Top Tray Organizer (2 Piece Design)
The top tray insert is split into two parts to allow easier printing and installation while still fitting together cleanly once installed.

Center Drawer Organizer – 2 Versions
Designed as a single piece insert.
Note: The center drawer must be removed from the toolbox to install this insert.
v1 orientation note: Orient the thin, long cavity toward the back of the drawer, as this area is otherwise unreachable dead space.

Bottom Drawer Organizer
A deeper insert optimized for larger tools or bulk storage.
Note: The bottom drawer must also be removed from the toolbox for installation.

Designed specifically for the Kobalt Mini Tool Box
Not compatible with Harbor Freight mini toolboxes due to rear drawer rivets
Clean compartment layout for tools, parts, and accessories
Optimized for FDM printing with no supports required
Prints cleanly in PLA, PETG, or similar materials
Snug fit without being overly tight

Printing Notes

No supports required
Print orientation as provided in the 3MF
0.2–0.28 mm layer height works well
Infill can be adjusted to preference (8–10% recommended)

This project was a learning experience and a functional upgrade I wanted to add to my own toolbox. Feedback is welcome, and future revisions or alternate layouts may be added over time.

I printed these and even with taking the drawers out, they wouldn't fit unless we also removed the magnets, which we ended up doing. In the future, I will size this at 95% to print. They do have some room on the sides so not a tight fit that way. I will upload pics from my phone.

Print my other model! It has the cutouts for the magnets and I also redesigned the bottom drawer inserts to make better use of the space!

Great file. Very clean print finish. Only issue is the top cannot close completely. The rolled edge hits the tray not allowing it to close.

great idea. but doesn't fit in middle drawer and the top organizer doesn't allow the top to close.

As is turns out there are different model Kobalt boxes, check out my V3 Universal model. It should fit all of them.

waste of filament didn’t fit the mini tool box midleading spent more money then I wanted to for it to not work

yea I made this model before I knew there were several different models of the Kobalt box, use my V3 it fits all the boxes and is very customizable

for some reason they do not fit in my pink Kobalt. the top tray fits in but lid doesn’t close and bottom tray is just a touch wide it won’t slid in

The print itself was good but there is a bolt in the back middle of the bottom drawer that makes it almost impossible to squeeze this into
