Los Jilbertos Model Set - 1:64 Scale Diorama
Print Profile(2)

Description
I received a request for Los Jilbertos Restaurant in Safford, AZ, a popular spot for authentic Mexican food. I've been to AZ a few times and know that there are some delicious eats throughout the state. Los Jilbertos looks like a fun, late night spot and super convenient since it has a drive-thru.

This restaurant building has a pretty simple design but still offers a lot of unique details. The bright green paint really makes the building stand out. The angled roof and the HVAC on top provide an interesting look to the top of the building. And the road sign that goes right through the roof adds something a little different.
I changed up the design a little bit since I couldn't find a ton of photos all around the building, and Google Maps was a bit limited with their views. I also made some modifications to the overall design to optimize printing. I also could not find any good images of the road sign, so I had to create a custom sign that looked similar and still captured the same spirit as the original sign. I really like how the brick design came out especially in the green filament.
- The front windows and front door are printed separately from the frame. I printed the windows in translucent PETG (I don't have any translucent PLA at the moment) and press fit the windows into the frame. Some glue might be necessary to keep the parts together.
- The road sign and drive-thru signs are located in a second 3mf file as I printed those pieces in a smaller layer height for better detail. I think if you use a smaller nozzle size, you may even get better detail. I used the standard 0.4 nozzle and the parts still look fine.
- One of the biggest updates with this model set is the base. This is the first model set to use a new base connection system so that you can connect the base pieces to make them feel like one piece. There are square connectors/tiles that snap into the bottom of the bases to connect each base. The fit of the square tiles is tight but once they snap in, they hold together well. I highly recommend letting the base parts cool after printing before trying to pop it off the build plate. This allows the base to separate from the supports for easy cleanup. In my testing, the supports would stay stuck to the build plate while I removed the base. I plan on using this base connection system for future model sets, and I will try to go back and update the old models with this new system.
- Super glue and hot glue were used for doors, windows, light fixtures, and signs.
- Assembly guide included with list of filaments used.
Thanks to one of our community members for requesting this restaurant. I read all your comments and messages, so if you have suggestions of places you want to see, let me know and I will add it to my list of projects. I've got another model set coming soon that has been highly requested, so stay tuned! Thanks for your continued support!
