Description

Assemble your bug team, protect your Vespiquen, and capture your opponent's! Poke-Hive is a new take on the existing 2-player strategy game that replaces bugs with bug type Pokémon. Players place and move their tiles with the goal of completely surrounding your opponent's Vespiquen. Like the pieces in chess, each Pokémon has unique rules that control how they move. A full set of rules is can be found below.

The game is composed of the following printed pieces:

  • Vespiquen Tile (1 per player)
  • Heracross Tiles (2 per player)
  • Ariados Tiles (2 per player)
  • Durant Tiles (3 per player)
  • Lokix Tiles (3 per player)
  • 3 Expansion Tiles (optional, 1 Ledyba, 1 Whirlipede, 1 Buzzwole)
  • Box
  • Box Lid
  • Box Spacer (optional, used to keep pieces from sliding in the box if not using the 3 expansion tiles)

I've provided 2 versions of the game, a standard version and a lite version. While the gameplay is the same, the lite version takes far less filament to print:

 StandardLite
Tile Dimensions (LxWxH in mm)66 x 57 x 1244 x 38 x 8
Filament cost per tile (including purge, in g)~20-25~7
Colors per tile (#)42
Filament swaps per tile (#)~20-40<10
Tile STL file Name[Detailed][Basic]
Box dimensions (LxWxH in mm) 78 x 128 x 17953 x 87 x 122

In an effort to further reduce filament requirements, I've provided a mono-color box lid in addition to the standard multicolor yellow and black one (works well if you have an H2D or H2C, but would require 500g+ of purge for a single-nozzle printer). Tiles in the standard version of the game have up to 4 colors and there are slight color differences between the black and white tiles of the same Pokémon. For this reason, Each tile has it's own plate in the standard version print profile. The Lite version tiles only have 2 colors, the tile base color (black or white) and the Pokémon color (yellow, blue, red, etc.). The print profile contains only black tiles, to print the white set, simply change the Filament 1 color to white in Bambu Studio. The simplicity of these tiles also allows you to easily print all of them on a single plate needing only 37 filament changes and saving hours of print time (Note: This would require 2 AMS units). Like the game, the instructions insert also comes in 2 versions, a fun colorful version with pictures and a black and white text-only version that will be easier on your (2D) printer's ink. Both rule inserts measure 6" x 9" and can fit into both boxes when folded in quarters.

I used mostly Bambu Filaments for this project (listed below), but I also used PolyTerra Matte Army Dark Green for Lokix and Polymaker Panchroma Periwinkle for Whirlipede.

This was a fun game to design and even more fun to play. I hope you enjoy it, happy printing!
