Description

🔧 RedSea Reefer 250 G2 – Modular Overflow Insert with Integrated Fluidized Bed Reactor

💡 Concept & Design Philosophy

This modular overflow insert was specifically designed for the RedSea Reefer 250 G2 sump overflow.
It combines an overflow comb and a fluidized bed reactor into a single, compact, pump-free solution.

No external reactors.
No extra pumps.
No hoses.

👉 The system is driven entirely by the overflow flow.

🧠 The Key Innovation: Exposed Gyroid Core

The real magic happens during printing:

  • The model is structurally solid by design
  • Top layers = 0
  • Bottom layers = 0
  • The Gyroid infill is intentionally left exposed

This turns the infill itself into the reactor core.

Why Gyroid?

Gyroid is ideal for water filtration:

  • ✅ Fully water-permeable
  • ✅ No dead zones
  • ✅ Uniform flow in all directions
  • ✅ Extremely strong with minimal material
  • ✅ No clogging pathways

➡️ Water is forced through the Gyroid structure, ensuring maximum contact time and efficiency.

🧩 Modular System – Two Interchangeable Combs

The reactor body is identical — only the comb changes:

🔹 Coarse Comb Module

  • High flow capacity
  • Ideal for strong return pumps
  • Very low clogging risk

🔹 Fine Comb Module

  • Protects snails and small livestock
  • Smoother surface flow
  • Cleaner visual appearance

Both combs are fully interchangeable and use the same reactor housing.

🌊 Supported Filter Media (Saltwater Aquarium)

This integrated reactor is compatible with all common saltwater filter media, especially:

🧬 Biological Media

  • Siporax
  • Seachem Matrix
  • MarinePure
  • Biohome Marine
  • Ceramic rings / bio media pellets (passive use)

➡️ Excellent for biological filtration, nitrification & denitrification.

🧪 Chemical Media

  • Activated carbon - ensure that it´s not tumbling!
  • Phosphate removers (GFO / iron-based)
  • Aluminum-based adsorbers
  • Zeolite (passive use)

⚠️ Note:
This is not a pump-driven pellet reactor, but a passive fluidized hybrid optimized for overflow-driven flow — making it extremely quiet and maintenance-friendly.

🖨️ Critical Print Settings (Important!)

Recommended slicer settings for the selected heights:

  • Infill pattern: Gyroid
  • Infill density: ~ 10%
  • Top layers: 0
  • Bottom layers: 0
  • Wall count: 2–3 perimeters recommended

✔ Result:

  • Structurally solid reactor base
  • Fully exposed Gyroid core
  • Maximum water flow
  • No post-processing required

🧱 Material Recommendations

  • PETG (strongly recommended)
  • ASA / ABS (for experienced users)
  • ⚠️ PLA not recommended (continuous water + temperature)

🚀 Advantages Over Traditional Reactors

✔ No additional pump
✔ No hoses or plumbing
✔ No external equipment
✔ Silent operation
✔ Modular & serviceable
✔ Optimized for RedSea overflows
✔ Low maintenance
✔ Prints cleanly and reliably

🧠 Who Is This For?

  • RedSea Reefer 250 G2 owners
  • Reefers who want less equipment
  • Makers who love functional engineering
  • Aquarists focused on flow efficiency & biology
