Description

This tool is a combined Shaker and Dosing Cup designed to break up clumps and transfer grounds cleanly into your basket. It is customizable via the MakerWorld Customizer, allowing you to adjust the height or diameter to fit your specific setup.

Common Sizes & Compatibility

I have provided pre-configured print profiles for the most common diameters:

  • 58 mm: Standard commercial size.
  • 54 mm: Fits Sage / Breville machines.
  • 51 mm: Fits DeLonghi and many other entry-level machines.

If you need a specialized diameter or a different height for your grinder, please use the Customize button or comment what size would be optimal for you.

Magnets

Magnets make this shaker even better and provide a satisfying tactile experience, it is however completely useable without magnets:

  • Lid Snap: 12 magnets (6 in the lid, 6 in the top of the cup) ensure the lid snaps into place.
  • Portafilter Grip: 8 magnets at the bottom of the cup keep it securely seated on your portafilter while shaking.
  • Grinder Docking: Central 10x2 mm magnets in the lid and under the plug allow the shaker to dock with magnetic grinder mounts.
  • Lid Parking: While grinding, the lid can be magnetically “parked” underneath the cup.

Suggested Hardware

  • 20 Magnets: 4 x 2 mm (6 for the lid, 6 for the cup top, 8 for the cup bottom).
  • 2 Magnets: 10 x 2 mm (1 for the lid, 1 for the plug).

Print Settings

To get the best results (especially when using the Customizer file), use these settings:

  • Print Sequence: Set to “By Object”. This ensures the cleanest surface finish for each part.
  • Plug Weight: Set the Plug infill to 100%. This adds a pleasant mass to the tool, making the handling feel much more premium.
  • Walls: Use 3 Wall Loops.
  • Layer Height: 0.12 mm is recommended for tolerances and a smooth finish.
  • Post-Processing: Sanding the internal surfaces makes the tool even better, as it removes the print ridges where coffee grounds tend to get stuck.

Troubleshooting

  • Magnets: These are designed for a press-fit. If your printer’s tolerances make them loose, a tiny drop of superglue will secure them.
  • Fitment: If the plug sits too tight inside the cup, sand the inside of the cup. Avoid sanding the bottom of the plug, as it has a small lip necessary for a proper seal. For me just putting the plug in multiple times gave me great fitment.

Before I build this, I have a quick question, when I build a part like this, does a lot of residue stick to the container due to static electricity? Or do you have to use a specific material?

I’ve just used the PLA NX-2 from Extrudr I normally use. There is some residue – but way less than on my Timemore hand grinder. Forcefully tapping the lid before opening it keeps the residue pretty minimal.

Replying to @fabiankirchen :
I added print profiles where every part is on an individual plate – that’ll take longer to print, but you should be able to print it without any hassle. Have fun with the shaker and let me know, if you have any problems.

Can you make a profile for p1s? I really want to try this out!

It seems, that MakerWorld blocks the profile because I used print by object – which however is essential for the plug. You could just open the 3mf and change the printer, does that work?
