Description
DP-63-A Radiation Dosimeter Replacement Backplate
This model is a replacement backplate for the Soviet DP-63-A (ДП-63-А) radiation dosimeter, a Cold War–era civil defense instrument used to measure gamma radiation dose rates.
Design Purpose
The original DP-63-A backplate was made from a translucent material to diffuse internal illumination for low-light readability.
This replacement model is intentionally designed for use with:
- UV-reactive filament
- Glow-in-the-dark filament
- Transparent or translucent filament
When printed with these materials, the backplate produces a visual effect that closely mimics the original illuminated scale.
Material Recommendation
For best results, use UV-reactive or translucent filament.
The example photo demonstrates the intended effect using Atomic UV-reactive filament.
Intended Use
- Restoration or refurbishment of original DP-63-A units
- Display, collection, or prop use
Notes
- Be sure to modify print setting based on your filament of choice.
- Due to variations in printer calibration, filament type, and print settings, minor sanding or finishing may be required for proper fit. Light sanding along the edges is usually sufficient.
