Description

This model is a highly detailed replica of a weathered, broken wooden barrel. It features deep wood grain textures and reinforced metal bands, making it a versatile piece for aquariums, terrariums various hobbies.

Primary uses:

  • Aquariums & Terrariums: The large opening allows small fish (like bettas, tetras, or corydoras) and shrimp to easily swim in and out, providing a secure hiding spot that reduces stress. The rustic design blends perfectly into natural-style tanks.
  • Tabletop Gaming: If you scale down in size it works excellently as scatter terrain for wargames and RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons.

🖨️ Print Settings:

  • Material: PLA or PETG recommended.
    • Note for Aquarium Use: PETG is generally considered more durable for long-term submersion, but high-quality PLA works well too. Ensure your filament does not contain harmful additives.
  • Layer Height: 0.16mm or 0.2mm for a good balance of detail and speed.
  • Infill: 5-20% Gyroid or Grid is sufficient.
  • Supports: Recommended. Tree (organic) supports touching the buildplate usually work best for supporting the internal overhangs without scarring the outside texture.
  • Brim: Generally not needed if your bed adhesion is good, as it has a flat base.

🎨 Painting & Post-Processing:

  1. Priming: Start with a dark brown or matte black primer spray to get into all the crevices.
  2. Basecoat: Paint the wood areas a medium brown and the metal bands a dark gunmetal grey.
  3. Wood Texture (Dry Brushing): Use a lighter tan or beige color on a large, dry brush. Lightly brush over the wood grain to catch the raised edges. This makes the texture pop.
  4. Metal & Rust: Apply a black wash (heavily diluted black paint) over the metal bands. Once dry, stipple (dab) small spots of orange and reddish-brown paint onto the metal bands to simulate rust.
  5. Sealing (Crucial for Aquariums): If using in a tank, ensure all paints used are non-toxic acrylics. Once fully cured, it is highly recommended to seal the model with a matte, aquarium-safe clear coat to protect the paint and your fish. Always rinse thoroughly before adding to your tank.
