Friedrich Nietzsche – Bust

This bust depicts Friedrich Nietzsche, one of the most influential philosophers of the 19th century, whose ideas profoundly shaped modern philosophy, literature, and the critique of Western morality. It is inspired by the most iconic and widely recognized photograph of Nietzsche, the image that permanently established his visual identity.

The sculptural interpretation follows classical bust principles and is designed with 3D printing in mind. The face is presented frontally, with a neutral yet intense expression reflecting the philosopher’s intellectual rigor and inner depth. His defining features — the broad forehead, penetrating gaze, and especially the distinctive, voluminous mustache — are intentionally simplified while remaining strongly emphasized through clear planes and deep carving.

The hair and mustache are treated as powerful sculptural masses, with bold volumes and decisive lines that reinforce the iconic character of the portrait. No idealization is applied: natural facial asymmetries are preserved to remain faithful to Nietzsche’s true appearance as seen in the reference photograph.

Limited to the head and upper torso in accordance with classical sculptural tradition, the bust rests on a simple, understated base designed to support the composition without drawing attention away from the figure.
