This bust represents Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli, a major figure in Italian Renaissance political thought. Inspired by the most popular and widely circulated representation of the character, this bust offers a faithful, sober and frontal sculptural interpretation, in the tradition of classical portraits.

The face is rendered with clean and structured volumes, highlighting Machiavelli's characteristic features: a direct and penetrating gaze, a thin face, marked by a contained and thoughtful expression. The deliberate absence of idealization maintains a strong intellectual presence, conveying the rigor, lucidity, and sometimes harshness associated with his thought. The natural asymmetries of the face are preserved to enhance the realism and uniqueness of the portrait.

Niccolò Machiavelli (1469–1527) is best known for his work The Prince, a foundational political treatise in which he analyzes power as it is actually exercised, rather than as it should be according to morality. Long controversial, his thought profoundly influenced modern political philosophy by dissociating the exercise of power from traditional moral considerations.

The face is rendered with strong, clearly defined planes, emphasizing Machiavelli’s distinctive features: a direct and thoughtful gaze, a narrow face, and a composed, introspective expression. The sculpture avoids idealization, preserving the natural asymmetry of the face to maintain authenticity and intellectual presence. This approach reinforces the sense of realism and reflects the sharp, analytical mind for which Machiavelli is known.
