Description and context (FR)
This bust represents Sigmund Freud, the founding figure of psychoanalysis and one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century. The sculpture is directly inspired by the most famous photograph of the figure, the one that durably shaped his public image: a frontal gaze, a grave and concentrated expression, and features marked by age and reflection.
The sculptural work emphasizes the structure of the face and the essential volumes: the broad forehead, the penetrating gaze, the beard, and the deep lines that convey Freud's intellectual intensity and rigor. No embellishment or idealization was sought; on the contrary, natural asymmetries and characteristics specific to the face are preserved to remain faithful to historical reality.
This bust offers a classic sculptural interpretation, designed for presentation and 3D printing, which pays homage to the man behind the work: an audacious researcher who profoundly transformed our understanding of the human mind, the unconscious, and psychic mechanisms.
Sigmund Freud – Bust
Description and background (EN)
This bust depicts Sigmund Freud, the founding figure of psychoanalysis and one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century. The sculpture is inspired by the most iconic and widely recognized photograph of Freud, the image that has largely defined his public persona: a direct gaze, a serious and introspective expression, and facial features shaped by age and deep intellectual activity.
The sculptural approach emphasizes the fundamental planes and volumes of the face: the broad forehead, the intense eyes, the beard, and the deeply carved lines that convey Freud’s intellectual rigor and inner tension. No idealization or correction has been applied; natural asymmetries and distinctive facial traits are deliberately preserved to remain faithful to the historical likeness.
Designed as a classical sculptural interpretation suitable for display and 3D printing, this bust pays tribute to the man behind the theories—an innovative and controversial thinker whose work profoundly transformed our understanding of the human mind, the unconscious, and psychological processes.
