Description

I started this as a weekend project with my son after I saw a video, and boy was I right! We used ½" EMT conduit as the tubing, which is cheap, straight at 4', and sturdy enough to last. I designed the mouthpiece, pistol grip, end cap, and ammo holder to slide snugly over the conduit, and added holes for M3 heat set inserts to provide durability and a tight fit. The pistol grip itself also has a hole in the center for an M3 insert, and I used an M3 20mm screw to reinforce the print. On the end cap and ammo holder, I added M3 insert holes in order to hold it tight to the tubing.

I used 3 ½" construction nails as the darts, and wrapped duct tape as the fletching. With a proper fit, I've been able to maintain reasonable accuracy at 30', with about ¼" penetration into plywood. It turned from a weekend project into a small game hunting weapon! Or just use it for target practice in the back yard. Either way, we've had a lot of fun with it.

I printed this plate with a .6mm hardened steel nozzle in both Sunlu PA6 (Easy PA) and Sunlu Elite PETG as well as Kingroon PETG, and they all printed really well with a .24 layer height. If you're using exotic materials, there will be printer specific mods you'll want to make. The profile I used was on a P1S, using a textured PEI plate and a JT16 glue stick. The glue is especially important with PA6. I haven't run these in PLA, but you would definitely want to change your settings to something more PLA friendly.
