Description

Designed, printed, and battle-tested on my own barn-style sliding door in my home office! This simple yet effective catch keeps the heavy sliding door securely closed, preventing it from drifting open due to drafts, pets, kids, or just the natural movement of a track-mounted door.

 

I hung this barn door myself, and after trying commercial options (expensive, overkill, or not quite fitting), I modeled this custom solution. It's friction-based/sliding (or bolt-style — tweak if needed), mounts easily with basic screws (no fancy hardware required), and holds firm without damaging the door or frame.

 

Key Features:

  • Tailored for standard barn-style sliding doors (adjustable scaling in your slicer for thickness/gap variations)
  • Prints reliably with good layer adhesion — I used PLA successfully
  • Low-profile design to maintain the rustic barn aesthetic
  • No supports needed on most orientations (print flat or angled for strength)
  • Proven in daily use: keeps the door shut tight in a real home setting

Perfect for home offices, bedrooms, bathrooms, closets, garages, or any space with a sliding barn door. Great pet-proofing or privacy hack too!

 

Print Recommendations:

  • Material: PLA, PETG, or ABS for durability
  • Infill: 75% for strength
  • Layer height: 0.2mm or finer
  • Orientation: As provided (or experiment for best results)

If your door gap/thickness differs from mine (~standard 1.5-2" door with typical barn track clearance), scale the model non-uniformly in X/Y or Z as needed.

Thank you very much! Although it seems like a simple system, I spent weeks thinking about the ideal one, and this totally helped me. The only adjustment I made was to change the thickness from 20mm to 15mm, otherwise, everything is great!
