Description

Herringbone Gear Set – 200–250 RPM Gearbox

This is a redesigned gear set for the Willit3DPrints Brass Prep Station, replacing the original helical gears with true herringbone (double helical) gears.

This set is intended specifically for the 200–250 RPM gearbox configuration and includes:

  • 1x Main herringbone gear
  • 6x Accessory herringbone gears (print x6)

The gear ratios remain unchanged from the original 200–250 RPM design. These gears are a direct drop in replacement and require no other modifications to the gearbox, shafts, bearings, or housing.

Herringbone (double helical) gears

Herringbone gears cancel axial thrust generated by standard helical gears. This results in:

  • Reduced side loading on bearings and shafts
  • Smoother operation under load
  • Lower vibration and noise
  • Better long term wear characteristics for printed parts

These benefits are most noticeable in higher torque configurations like the 200–250 RPM gearbox, especially when running multiple tools simultaneously.

Print recommendations for gears

Recommended print settings for all herringbone gears (main and accessory):

  • Walls / perimeters: 5
  • Infill: 20%
  • Layer height: 0.2mm

PLA as originally specified works well, but can be SLS printed with nylon as well.

Notes

  • Anything marked X6 should be printed six times
  • These gears are designed to be used with the existing 200–250 RPM motor and hardware listed in the original project
  • All other parts, hardware, and assembly instructions remain unchanged

Happy printing.
