Description

NEWS! This is now confirmed to work with the Core 300 series filters!

If you’re printing ABS, ASA, Nylon, or other high-VOC materials, room air purifiers and open enclosures aren’t enough.

This model is a sealed fume extractor shroud designed specifically for the realtively-cheap and easy-to-automate Core 200S air filter and Core 300 air filters (thanks to @oldIT for confirming!) , creating a controlled airflow path that actively pulls fumes from the printer, forces them through filtration matrix, and exhausts filtered air out the top.

Why spend $500+ for the Bambu filtration system when you can have a similar system for <$100 ?

For the Core 200S users, this design pairs intentionally with my Core 200S carbon filter insert, forming a complete VOC mitigation system rather than just passive HEPA filtration. Instead of hoping fumes eventually reach a purifier, this system captures them at the source. This system is designed to be compatible with the hose fittings from the incredible Quicklock system from Made.in.Meidling.

Boost Me (for free)

If you print indoors, air quality matters. This fume extractor is designed to actually remove VOCs, not just move air around. If this helps keep your workspace cleaner and safer, please give it a boost, leave a like, or share feedback. Every boost helps push practical designs like this forward.

Key design goals:

  • Sealed airflow path (no bypass leaks), but also easily able to be opened to allow or whole-room filtration. To provide ventilation for the room, you simply have to slide the top portion of the housing upwards to allow air into the lower housing.
  • High static-pressure compatibility
  • Directional exhaust away from the printer
  • Print-friendly geometry with no exotic hardware

This is a functional, no-nonsense solution for anyone printing indoors who actually cares about air quality.

🔧 Features:

  • Designed for Core 200S HEPA filter systems (reportedly works with Core 300S as well!)
  • Fully sealed shroud to prevent air bypass
  • Active fume extraction with negative pressure directly from the printer
  • Top exhaust to promote vertical airflow
  • Complements carbon filter insert for true VOC removal
  • No electronics or firmware required

🧠 Why This Matters:

Many “3D printer air solutions” just move air around the room.

This system:

  • Captures fumes before they spread
  • Forces air through carbon media
  • Reduces VOC exposure instead of diluting it

If you print indoors, this is one of the most meaningful upgrades you can make to keep your workspace healthy.

🖨️ Printing Notes

  • Material: Designed and optimized for ABS. Other materials should work fine. Gaskets are made from TPU.
  • Nozzle: 0.4 mm+
  • Walls: 3–4 perimeters
  • Infill: 15–20%
  • Supports: This is optimized for using HIPS for the interface layers with zero offsets.
