Description

🐾 Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie)

The Shetland Sheepdog, lovingly known as the Sheltie, is an intelligent, graceful, and deeply loyal breed celebrated for its beauty and devotion. Originating from the rugged Shetland Islands of Scotland, Shelties were bred to herd sheep and protect farms in harsh conditions. Today, they are cherished companions — elegant in appearance, gentle in nature, and remarkably smart.

🐶 Appearance & Personality
Coat: Long, double-layered, and flowing — found in sable, black, blue merle, and bi-black or tri-color variations, often with white and tan markings.
Build: Small to medium-sized, agile, and well-proportioned, built for speed and endurance.
Expression: Alert, kind, and intelligent — their almond-shaped eyes reflect sensitivity and awareness.
Temperament: Loyal, affectionate, and highly responsive. Shelties form deep bonds with their families and are known for their eagerness to please. They are gentle and loving at home, yet attentive and watchful, making them both devoted companions and excellent watchdogs.

🎾 Activity & Companionship
Shelties are energetic and thrive on mental and physical engagement.
They enjoy daily walks, active play, and structured activities such as agility or obedience training.
Their strong connection to their people means they flourish when included in family life.
While playful and spirited outdoors, Shelties are calm and affectionate indoors — happiest when close to those they love.

💪 Health & Care
Exercise: Moderate to high — regular activity and mental stimulation are essential.
Coat care: Moderate — weekly brushing (more during shedding seasons) keeps the coat healthy and tangle-free.
Diet: High-quality nutrition tailored to active, intelligent breeds.
Health: Shelties typically live 12–14 years and may be prone to eye conditions, thyroid issues, and hip problems. Routine vet care and responsible breeding are important for long-term health.
