Bur and File Holder V1.0
Print Profile(1)

Description
Technical Design Specification: Bur and Endodontic File Holder
1. General Architecture & Form
- Shape: Typically a rectangular, low-profile block or a hinged cassette box.
- Dimensions: Compact footprint (approx), designed to fit standard autoclave trays.
- Material: Constructed from high-grade anodized aluminum or autoclavable medical polymer (such as PEEK or Teflon).
- Color-Coding: Often available in various metallic colors (Blue, Red, Silver, Gold) to denote specific procedures or operators.
2. Upper Surface Layout (The Workspace)
The top deck is usually divided into distinct zones to segregate rotary instruments (burs) from hand instruments (files):
- Zone A: The Bur Station (Fraises)
- Contains a matrix of drilled sockets (typically 6 to 12 holes).
- Socket Types: Calibrated for standard shanks:
FG (Friction Grip):
diameter for high-speed turbine burs.
RA (Right Angle/Latch):
- diameter for low-speed contra-angle burs.
- Silicone Plugs: Often includes silicone inserts to grip the bur shanks securely, preventing them from falling out during transport.
- Zone B: The Endo File Station (Limes)
- Features a specific array of holes (typically numbered 1–12 or more) to organize files by ISO size or sequence.
- Stand-up design: Holds files vertically for easy grasping with tweezers.
- Sponge/Clean-out Station: A small circular well designed to hold a disposable foam insert for cleaning debris off the files during the procedure.
3. Integrated Measurement Features
A critical component of the "Porte Limes" aspect is the Endo Ruler:
- Laser-Etched Scale: A high-contrast millimeter scale (usually) etched directly onto the side or top surface.
- Calibration Slide: A stepped or sliding stop mechanism allowing the dentist to precisely set the "working length" of the root canal file (adjusting the rubber stopper) using one hand.
4. Safety & Sterilization Features
- Perforations: The base and sides often feature slotted vents or mesh to allow steam circulation and drainage during the autoclave cycle.
- Hinged Lid (Cassette Style): If the design is a box, it includes a locking lid that creates a protective cage around the sharp instruments, preventing injury to staff during cleaning.
- Corner Radii: Smooth, rounded corners to prevent tearing of sterilization pouches.
