Description

This fixed-angle 4-way cross connector is part of the Modular Connectors system and is designed for building rigid, square, and frame-based structures using round rods or dowels.

All four arms are locked at exactly 90°, making this connector ideal for structural bracing, cubic frames, racks, stands, enclosures, and furniture-like constructions where precision and stiffness matter more than adjustability.

The model is fully parametric in OpenSCAD, allowing you to adapt it to different rod diameters, wall thicknesses, and strength requirements.

Key features

  • 4-way cross geometry with fixed 90° angles
  • Designed for round rods / wooden dowels / tubes
  • Extra internal ribs for increased strength (optional)
  • Optimized geometry for strongest print orientation
  • Clean, modular design compatible with the entire Modular Connectors series

OpenSCAD customization parameters

You can easily adapt the connector by editing the following parameters in the OpenSCAD file:

  • rod_diameter_mm
Nominal diameter of the rod or dowel.
  • clearance_mm
Fit tolerance for easier or tighter insertion.
  • wall_thickness_mm
    Thickness of the connector walls.
  • insert_depth_in_units_of_rod_diameter
Controls how deep the rods are inserted into the connector
(defined in multiples of the rod diameter).
  • extra_strength (true / false)
Enables internal ribs for improved rigidity.
  • horizontal_through_hole (true / false)
Controls whether the horizontal arm is a continuous through-hole
or split into two separate bores.
  • strongest_print_orientation (true / false)
Automatically applies a 45° cut to optimize layer orientation
    for maximum strength when printed.

Printing notes

  • Works well with PLA, PETG, ASA, or ABS
  • Recommended layer height: 0.2 mm
  • Optimized for strength-first orientation by default
