Playable depictions of historically significant chess designs.
The Depiction Series treats chess sets as living history. Each design is based on authentic references and recreated with care, preserving original form and intent while adapting the pieces for modern play. These sets are meant to be handled, studied, and enjoyed—connecting today’s players with the craftsmanship of the past.

ABOUT THIS SET
First mentioned in records around c. 1030, Dieppe sits where the River Arques cuts through the Norman cliffs before reaching the English Channel. From the Middle Ages onward, the town became known for two closely linked things: seafaring and ivory carving. Dieppe’s port served as a departure point for exploration and trade, while its master sculptors and turners developed an extraordinary reputation for working ivory—skills that were fed directly by those same maritime connections. Overlooking it all is the cliff-top fortress, now the Château-Musée, which still houses an exceptional collection of carved ivory objects that speak to this long tradition.
By the early nineteenth century, Dieppe had also become a fashionable seaside destination. Visitors came for health, leisure, and souvenirs, often leaving with small carved figures made by local artisans, including the popular “Polletais,” inspired by the fishermen and skippers of the nearby Pollet quarter. When the railway from Paris reached Dieppe in 1848, access became easier and demand grew. Chess sets carved in this environment reflect that blend of craftsmanship, travel, and quiet luxury—objects meant not only for play, but as tangible reminders of a place where carving, commerce, and the sea had been intertwined for centuries.

Consider 'Annealing' your chess set.
Annealing your PLA models can improve strength by 10–20%. If you plan to use the set regularly, I highly recommend it. For display or occasional play, annealing is optional, and the appearance and finish remain unchanged.
