RAM Mount Rigid Ball Upgrade (B-Size 1")
Print Profile(1)

Description
This is a rigid replacement ball for the RAM-B-349U mirror-mount ball adapter. It replaces the OEM rubber ball (which can deform over time) with a stiffer printed ball, while retaining the original metal post and pin.
Note: RAM Mounts / RAM-B-349U are referenced for compatibility only. This is an independent modification and not an official RAM product.
On my motorbikes, the OEM rubber ball gradually deforms and can also loosen slightly on the metal post, creating slop and making small position adjustments frustrating. This mod is intended to keep the ball round and stable, so the arm stays firm and adjustments remain consistent.
Compatibility
- Designed for the RAM-B-349U mirror-mount ball adapter.
- Reuses the original metal post and taper pin.
- Irreversible mod: you will be cutting/removing the factory rubber ball.
Recommended print setup
- Material: ASA or ABS (preferred for outdoor/heat resistance)
- Wall/perimeters: 5–6
- Infill: 40–60%
- Layer height: 0.20 mm (or similar)
- Print orientation/supports as supplied in the project; slice once before saving your final profile.
Tools and consumables
Tools
- Small pin punch (a second punch size helps)
- Small hammer
- Vice or locking pliers (to hold the post while driving the pin)
- Knife / cutters to remove rubber
- Optional: gentle heat (heat gun/torch) to loosen the pin for removal.
Consumables
- Masking tape
- Rust-Oleum LeakSeal (or similar rubberised coating) to increase grip on the ball.
Installation summary
This modification is permanent. Proceed only if you are comfortable doing basic mechanical work.
- Remove the OEM rubber ball
Mechanically cut/peel the rubber ball off until the pin is accessible. - Drive out the taper pin
Support the post in a vice or grips and use a punch + hammer to remove the pin. Wear eye protection. - Fit the printed ball
Slide the printed ball onto the post, align the cross-holes. - Reinstall the pin
Tap the pin back in until seated. - Rubberise the post for grip (recommended)
Mask off the surrounding areas and spray an even coat of LeakSeal on the ball (not the metal post). Let it cure per the can instructions before use.
Notes / safety
- Check clamp tightness regularly (especially after the first few rides).
- This is a functional motorcycle mount component—use at your own risk and verify suitability for your setup.
