🌿 The Ultimate Moss Pole Tip – Your Smart Finish for the Moss Pole
Hello dear Plant Parents and Tech Enthusiasts!
I am pleased to present my project: The Ultimate Moss Pole Tip. Anyone who loves their Philodendrons or Monsteras knows how important a good microclimate is. This modular attachment is the perfect crown for the popular “Ultra Thick ⌀80mm” moss pole from dyst.lab, turning it into a true high-tech plant system
✨ What your new moss pole tip can do:
- Built-in Nebulizer: Creates a humid microclimate directly at the plant
- Aesthetic Light: An LED glow beautifully showcases your plant
- Easy-Watering: You can continue to easily water your moss pole from above through the tip
🛠 Assembly
The tip has an inner diameter of 90 mm. A regular jam jar (approx 80 mm diameter) serves as the water tank
- The Base: Screw the tip onto your moss pole. The honeycomb mesh is glued in at the bottom and serves as a base for your jar
- The Nebulizer: The included bracket fits precisely onto the jar and securely holds the nebulizer in position
- The Diffuser: It rests on three supports. One of them is hollow/raised internally, so you can route the LED cables invisibly downwards
- The Lid: You can print the lid (e.g., with wood filament) or – like me – mill and oil it from glued beech wood. A groove in the lid ensures the diffuser sits perfectly
🔌 Plug & Play or Smart Home? The choice is yours!
Variant A: The simple "Plug & Play" Solution
You don't want to solder or program? No problem!
- Light: Glue a USB LED strip into the diffuser. Route the cable through the hollow support and the moss pole down to the power supply
- Nebulizer: Here are two models that, according to the manufacturer, should fit perfectly into the tip: (You may need to add a small hole here for the USB cable)
Variant B: My Smart Home Solution (Pro)
I use an ESP32-C3 and two IRLZ44N Mosfets to control light (via Apple HomeKit/HomeSpan) and mist separately. As a nebulizer, I use this model here
My optimal nebulizer rhythm (based on sun position):
- Mornings (2h after sunrise): 2 min ON / 15 min OFF
- Evenings (2h before sunset): 1 min ON / 20 min OFF
- During the day: 2 min ON / 10 min OFF
- At night: Completely OFF
- This way, the water tank lasts for approximately a whole week!
(I determined this data from a Gemini Deep Research for optimal plant growth)
A huge thank you to dyst.lab for the moss pole template!
I don't want to force anyone to do it exactly like me – feel free to use my idea as inspiration for your own creations. I am really looking forward to your Makes and comments! 🌿✨
