B-17 Bomber
(English: B-17 Bomber)was a propeller-driven bomber developed by Boeing in the 1930s for the United States Army Air Corps.
The B-17 was the world’s first all-metal four-engine bomber, featuring a low-wing conventional aerodynamic design, constant-speed propellers, a bomb load capacity of 2 tons, a range of 2,980 kilometers, a speed of 322 to 402 kilometers per hour, and a crew of 4 to 6.
Compared to other bombers, the B-17 stood out for its large size, high speed, and long range.
As a primary strategic bomber for the U.S. military in the early stages of World War II, the B-17 was first delivered in August 1937 in its initial Y1B-17 variant. By August 1944, the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) had deployed 33 B-17 bomber groups overseas for combat operations.
Subsequent models, including the B-17E, B-17F, and B-17G, were progressively improved. Among them, 3,405 B-17F and 8,680 B-17G units were produced. By April 1945, a total of 12,731 B-17 bombers of all variants had been manufactured.
During World War II, B-17 bombers accounted for 40% of all U.S. bomb tonnage dropped, totaling 640,000 tons.
