Description

I saw the original boom box for the media controller and re-designed it for use with an old car radio I had in the garage.  The radio I used happened also to be a Dual, model XHD6425.  Unfortunately I realized that although it says bluetooth on the front, you actually need to add a separate module for the bluetooth to work so I don't have that feature at the moment.  Radio & CD work good though.  I decided to add an antenna for AM/FM, and I added a wild guess at a tuned port for the box.  Sounds ok to me, definitely better than without the back on, but not sure about the port tuning beyond that.  Hopefully it won't get too hot in there without additional venting.  There's also a feature added to the back cover to retain the battery and support the back of the radio.  The front panel extends inside the box a little now to help carry shear load from the heavy radio and speakers.  I used a bunch of modifiers in the .3MF file to increase strength where the handle goes as well as adding walls where the inserts go, so I could save some filament compared to making the entire box thicker.  This all seemed to work fine but may have been un-necessary, adjust as you see fit.

See the original model for links to speakers, heat set inserts, charge cable, and screws/washers.  Here's the other parts I used that were different/additional:

I have a version very similar to this that has a seal enclosure within the box for the speakers, supports a small amplifier, and works plugs into the wall to be used as a garage speaker. I did not want to rely on a battery.

give me another week or two and I'll have the files all ready to go. The design is going through its final testing now.

if you check my profile it is now posted. I may eventually make a V2 that includes a place to mount a radio antenna.

It's rechargeable. The one I used claims it's good for 5000 cycles.

There's only 2.8mm between the 2 speaker cutouts so I don't think there's room to go up to 5", sorry. See the dimensions attached.
