Description

Yet Another Bird Feeder

Modular Edition - See below

Winter is coming in the northern hemisphere, and birds are once again starting their daily search for food. Instead of simply watching birds, I found myself watching my cat… watching birds… watching for food on our balcony. 🐱🐦

After a quick scroll through MakerWorld, I realized that many window bird feeders didn’t quite hit the mark for me — so I designed my own.

After some iterations, the idea became simple and modular:
Depending on the version, it can be mounted on a window or screwed onto a wall, hung by a rope or directly by the hook.

There are also 3 different branch designs included!

Key Features

  • Compact design
Prints fast and attracts small birds like titmice — while discouraging pigeons and crows.
  • Protective canopy
Keeps rain from getting into the food tray.
  • Drainage holes
Prevent water from accumulating during heavy rain.
  • Secondary bottom insert (optional)
Stops small food particles from falling through the drainage holes.
  • Window mounting options
Attachment points for optional suction pads for easy (re-)mounting on windows.
  • Modular connectors
Connector pieces and a top-ring version allow two halves to be securely joined and hung.
  • 3 replaceable landing branch designs
Easy to swap out if needed.

One Design - Multiple Choices - Print profile explanation

I included two print profiles containing all versions on different plates. I tried to make it especially “Bambu Handy” app friendly. Now you just have to choose: Do I want the textured (fuzzy skin) version or the standard one. Once you decided for a print profile you can select the according print plate for the house (e.g. WINDOW or HOOK). With the branch-plate  you just select the one branch (or multiple in case of the HOOK or ROPE variation) design that you like the most. There are always two of each branch variations on the branch-plate so you do not have to start a print twice from your phone in case you need two branches :)

NOTE: All “HOUSE” plates contain an optional insert. This insert is set to print with no solid top and bottom layers so the infill creates a tight mesh since small bits of bird food are otherwise able to fall through the water-drainage holes. This insert is not necessary for every bird food!

WINDOW Version

Includes attachment points for Bambu Lab 30 mm suction pads with mushroom head (see hardware list below).

Alternatively, you can use double-sided tape or adhesive dots to mount the feeder on your window.

HOOK Version

Features a hook on top for attaching directly onto a small branch or string. The inner diameter of the hook is ~8mm.

This version includes three printed connector pieces, which slot into the suction pad mounts to securely hold two feeders together so its weight is balanced and can be accessed from both sides.

ROPE Version

Features an additional ring on top for securely attaching a rope or cord.

This version includes three printed connector pieces, which slot into the suction pad mounts to securely hold two feeders together so its weight is balanced and food can be accessed from both sides.

SCREW Version

This Design has a solid back to mount it directly onto walls or wooden beams.

The hole diameter fits screws with a thread diameter up to 4mm

The distance between the two holes is 40mm. This measurement is also written on the back of the feeder!

Branches

The branch attaches with a snap mechanism keeping it securely in place.

The Branch plate includes two objects per branch version. Just open the print profile, select the branch plate and then go into the object selection settings and un-select all braches you do not want/need for your use case!

Material Recommendation

I recommend PETG or similar materials for better weather durability and UV resistance.
PLA works as well, but may have a shorter lifespan outdoors. For the pictures I used Bambulab PETG HF (cream) for the feeder and PLA Matte (Dark brown) for the branch.

Enjoy your personal bird (or whatever) watching time! :)

Additional Print Profiles Included (for experienced users only!)

  • AMS profiles
Parts are printed sequentially, drastically reducing purged filament.
  • Non-AMS multicolor profiles
Parts are split across multiple plates for easy multi-color printing.
  • Single-color profiles
Just hit print — everything you need in one go.
  • Fuzzy Skin profiles (Window Version)
Optional fuzzy skin settings for a more natural look, especially on the branch.
