Borgund Stave Church

Borgund Stave Church, known as Borgund stavkyrkje in Norwegian, stands as a testament to Norway's rich religious and architectural heritage. Erected circa 1200, it served as the principal place of worship for the village of Borgund in Lærdal Municipality, Vestland county. Initially affiliated with the Catholic Church, it later transitioned to the Church of Norway.

For centuries, Borgund Stave Church faithfully served the local parish within the Lærdal area, which was part of the broader Sogn deanery under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Bjørgvin. However, in 1868, its religious duties were transferred to a newer church constructed nearby, appropriately named the "new" Borgund Church.
