Description

This 3D printed replacement washer bottle cap is designed for the original VDO washer reservoir used on the 1972 BMW 2002. The factory caps were molded with a thin, weak point at the base of the retaining tab, which commonly cracks and breaks after decades of use. See image for weak point below:

This model addresses that failure point with a thicker, more robust tab while preserving the original fit and function. It is printed in TPU, which allows the part to flex instead of cracking, and whose layer structure chemically bonds together, making it far more durable than the original injection-molded plastic.

The VDO logo has been modeled directly into the cap for a factory-correct look.

The uploaded model is optimized for 95A TPU, which is the closest available durometer to 98A TPU on Bambu systems. While 98A TPU (such as Ranki’s) offers a slightly firmer feel and is my personal preference for this application, some users prefer the added flexibility and grip of 95A TPU. Both materials function well for this use case.

This is a functional replacement part intended to outlast the original design while maintaining the period-correct appearance.
