Hill Co Observation Hive – Top Frame Locker (Frame Stabilizer Clip)
This print is a simple, purpose-built frame locker for the Hill Co Observation Hive top frame. It prevents the sliding/moving frame in the observation area from shifting back and forth during transport, setup, or handling.
By locking the frame into a fixed position, it helps:
- Keep the frame straight and neat in the viewing window
- Reduce frame movement that can agitate bees
- Make demos and community events cleaner and more controlled
How it works
Install the locker onto the top-frame area where the observation frame normally slides. Once in place, it acts as a positive stop/lock so the frame can’t drift while the hive is being moved or when people bump the unit during viewing.
Recommended print settings
- Material: ASA (preferred)
- Layer height: 0.20 mm
Supports: None (if oriented flat as designed)
Notes
- If your fit is slightly tight/loose, adjust with horizontal expansion or scale by ±1–2% depending on your printer tolerances.
- For outdoor heat or a hive kept in a warm location, PETG or ASA will hold shape better than PLA.
Disclaimer
This part is an accessory intended to stabilize the observation frame. Always verify clearance before placing bees in the hive and confirm the frame can still be removed safely when needed.
