Quick Backstory & Credits
I paid like $20USD for an injector-molded plastic piece from a certain online parts manufacturer who I'll just call BAEco. It worked for what I wanted it to, but the plastic was a lot shinier than the initial photos appeared to be and I felt like I didn't really get that much bang for my buck, which is why I decided to design my own.
I want to credit 3pint and mark206 for the attaching point part of the model, as I used their models as the base for my design. I ended up removing the m14 style magazine lower section from 3pint's design and replaced it with an extension that better replicates the M1 Carbine magazine instead.
M1 Carbine Mag Extension
This is literally just a piece of plastic that you epoxy onto your magazine. It looks really cool, and does also make removing the 10-round mags a bit easier. If you're going for an M1 Carbine build on your 10/22, this is a pretty simple way to get that original magazine look with not a lot of hassle.
The model prints upside-down so that the bottom of the extension is smooth and flat, which does sometimes leave some stringing to the top part, but once you epoxy the extension in, it isn't visible. If someone really feels a strong desire to mess with those STL polygons further than I did, more power to you. Additionally, I did center the extension more to the magazine, as for some reason it looks like the BAEco. people had offset theirs by like 1/8" (BAEco. extension shown on the right in the 4th picture next to my design). Neither design affected function in any noticeable way.
I printed my first model with Bambu matte black PLA at 50% infill and honestly it came out perfect. It weighs pretty much identical to the BAEco. one, but feels a bit sturdier. I'll try printing it at 100%, but I don't think it's really that necessary. I do want to apologize for my glue job in the demonstration photo, I got a little sloppy and the epoxy is a bit more visible than I'd like it to be. Something something, cut twice…
Lastly, for the record, I do want to clarify again that this is a prop piece, and in no way a real magazine.
(P.S. I'm not a professional designer or anything, but if you do decide to upvote this model, I just want you to know that I will get a tiny sliver of validation each time that notification pings. I truly do appreciate your support.)
