Project Philosophy

ShellyGate was born from a simple need:
to make a classic remote control compatible with modern home automation without replacing it.

No RF tinkering, no dubious clones, no mandatory cloud dependence.
We keep the existing hardware and give it a connected second life.

Furthermore, ShellyGate is designed to be installed and stored indoors, protected from temperature variations, humidity, and bad weather.

This allows for:

  • preserving the lifespan of electronic components
  • ensuring reliable operation all year round
  • avoiding failures due to frost, condensation, or excessive heat
  • improving WiFi stability

The remote control retains its full radio range, even if the box is installed inside the building.

ShellyGate is a compact and intelligent electronic box designed to modernize a gate or garage remote control by making it fully connected.

It allows for the integration of up to 4 Shelly Mini Gen3 modules, each connected to a garage remote control button via their dry contacts, in order to remotely control the 4 buttons of the original remote control.

Thanks to ShellyGate, your remote control can be controlled from:

  • your smartphone
  • your home automation system (Home Assistant, Jeedom, MQTT, etc.)
  • programmed automations
  • connected scenarios

All this without modifying the internal electronics of the remote control

A Simple, Clean, and Modular Project

ShellyGate has been designed as a clean, reliable, and scalable solution for integrating an existing RF remote control into a modern home automation system.

Each Shelly Mini Gen3 acts as a dry contact relay, simulating a button press on the remote control.
This allows retaining the full original radio range while adding network control.

Main Features

  • Compact case capable of housing:
    • 4 × Shelly Mini Gen3
    • a 4-button gate remote control
  • Dry contact connection (no voltage injected into the remote control)
  • WiFi compatible
  • Easy integration into Home Assistant, Jeedom, Node-RED, etc.
  • Control via Shelly app, API, MQTT, or automations
  • Local access even without cloud

Typical Use

  • Remote gate opening (Full/partial)
  • Garage door opening
  • Pedestrian gate control

Each button becomes an independent connected device.

Internal Architecture

Inside, ShellyGate includes:

  • 4 Shelly Mini Gen3 modules
  • a distribution terminal block
  • clean and secure wiring
  • an integrated RF remote control
  • a robust and organized case

For Makers

The project is designed to be:

  • easy to reproduce
  • scalable
  • adaptable to different remote control models

The case can be 3D printed and adapted to different remote control sizes.
