Year 3046 – The Energy Core activated torch

The world did not end in fire.
It ended in scarcity.
After the Fallout, cities stood empty - burned out, silent. Energy vanished first. What remained was darkness - permanent, crushing, final.
There was a light that still worked.
Few knew of it. Even fewer could use it.
The light lived only through an Energy Core.
These cores were relics. Each one came from a time that would never return. They were found rarely and never given up willingly.
Without the core inserted, the light was dead.
No glow. No residue.
With the core in place, it awakened instantly, as if it had merely been waiting.
Three modes. Anything more was luxury:
Dimmed, to buy time.
Full brightness, to face the truth.
Pulsing, when someone was left alone.
The core was not an accessory.
It was a decision with consequences. Every use consumed the future.
Outside: ruins and ash.
Inside: light - while the last core still held energy.
