Overview

This is the V2 version of my dual-compartment desiccant storage unit for the Bambu Lab AMS HT.

V2 refines the original design by removing practical limitations, improving real-world compatibility, and increasing overall robustness while keeping capacity high and reducing unnecessary complexity.

 

Model Variations

This V2 model comes in several different variations to cater to different user needs. The differences are outlined below:

  • Variation 1:
    • Includes a recessed area for spool inserts
    • Includes a funnel saver
  • Variation 2 (This Model):
    • Includes a recessed area for spool inserts
    • Does not include a funnel saver
  • Variation 3:
    • Does not include a recessed area for spool inserts
    • Includes a funnel saver
  • Variation 4:
    • Does not include a recessed area for spool inserts
    • Does not include a funnel saver

🚀 What’s Improved in V2

✅ Spool Rotation (whilst drying) With Standard Tie-Off Method

  • V1 supported spool rotation when drying, but filament had to be tied internally
  • V2 adds cut-outs to allow for spool rotation when drying even if the filament is tied of externally
    • Result: spool rotation works even when filament is tied through the spool holes

✅ Refined Containers

  • The entire container perimeter has been slightly offset inward
  • This keeps capacity high while improving clearance and access
  • Makes the unit more forgiving inside the AMS HT without sacrificing usability

✅ Stronger Structure, Fewer Parts

  • No assembly required in V2 (Except putting the lids on)
  • The support legs used in V1 have been removed based on user feedback
  • The base has been reinforced to compensate

✅ Internal Reinforcement

  • Added internal support ribs across the storage units
  • Prevents sides bulging when filled with desiccant
  • Noticeably more rigid than V1

✅ Simplified, Stronger Lid System

  • Redesigned to a simple slotted lid
  • Allows the top of the model to be significantly stronger
  • Chamfered lid edges allow easy removal with a fingernail
  • Designed for infrequent access as desiccant can be dried in place

✅ Spool Insert Compatibility

  • Recess added to the larger (left) compartment for spool inserts
  • Right side intentionally left solid since adding a recess would make that compartment infeasible 

Assembly

Essentially none required.
Fill with desiccant using the optional but recommended funnel, install lids and place in the AMS HT.

Printing Recommendations

  • Material: ASA (recommended)
  • Alternative: ABS
  • PETG HF: Use with caution (≈69 °C heat deflection)
