Star Wars Dewback
Print Profile(1)

Description
The Dewback is an imposing quadrupedal reptile native to the desert expanses of Tatooine, characterized by a massive physical structure and an extraordinary ability to adapt to the climate
Its thick, scaly skin, which usually varies between shades of dull green and brown, acts as a true natural armor against fierce sandstorms and the intense radiation from the planet's two suns
An adult specimen can reach considerable dimensions, measuring approximately two meters in height at the shoulder and over four meters in length
The biology of this creature is closely linked to the desert's thermal cycle
Being cold-blooded animals, Dewbacks are particularly active during daylight hours, while they become extremely slow and lethargic after sunset, when temperatures drop
Their curious name, which literally means "dew back", derives precisely from a nocturnal survival strategy: during the cold of the night, condensation accumulates on their backs and, in the morning, the creatures lick it to hydrate before the heat makes it evaporate
From a behavioral standpoint, they are generally docile and solitary animals, but their placid nature should not be misleading
If provoked or threatened, they can unleash brutal force and demonstrate surprising speed in short bursts, useful for escaping predators like the Krayt Dragon
They also possess a long, sticky tongue that they use with precision to catch small rodents or to gather the rare lichens that grow among the rocks
The utility of the Dewback for the inhabitants of Tatooine is incalculable
Imperial stormtroopers, known as Sandtroopers, often prefer them to motorized vehicles because these reptiles are immune to mechanical failures caused by fine sand and do not produce heat that could interfere with long-range sensors
In addition to military use, Dewbacks are fundamental for colonists and moisture farmers, who employ them as resilient beasts of burden and travel companions capable of traversing the most impassable deserts without needing frequent stops for watering
Now you can have one all to yourself
