Description

This is a wall mounted Cat Scratching post, with a design that makes it easy to swap the posts when they are used up. For this project I used a 2.35 inch inner diameter cardboard tube from a shipment, and wrapped it in 6mm jute rope (safe for cats). The post is printed in PLA, and I used threaded m4 inserts so that the top portion could be easily removed for the replacement tube while not having to unscrew it from the wall. The bolts are m4x16mm. This design should work with any length of tube. If there is enough interest, I can scale the design for different diameter tubes as well.

For assembly, I recommend:

  1. add threaded inserts to the 2-part assembly (see images)
  2. decide where you want the post to be mounted, then screw the bottom bracket  (the single piece) to the wall
  3. assemble top bracket (the two remaining 3d printed parts), and assemble with the scratching post to determine the placement of the top bracket on the wall
  4. screw into mark point and drill holes and mount to the wall
  5. when you want to swap the posts, instead of unscrewing from the wall, unscrew from the threaded insert screws, remove half of the top assembly, and swap posts.

Additionally, I will note that making the scratching post is really easy. You really just need a hot glue gun and some __ rope, I also used a staple gun at the start and the end of the rope but it isn't necessary.

Hope this is helpful! to someone else!
