EDIT CORRECTION- my initial rating was incorrect as I realize my flaw due to the maker’s response. I modded the file from 10mm to 5mm thick resulting in the color issues. Apologies for my mistake. final result is I printed at 3mm thick as this is going to be a wall print, but made some changes to ensure colors came out ok. I love this print but I believe there's a big flaw, not enough layers of colors so the model comes out muddy. First pic is the default model, but cut down to 5mm thick instead of 10mm. Second model, I cut the model the first few layers and then increased the Z distance. I was using this as a wall print so I only made it 3mm thick. As you can see, the colors pop and look good. More filament changes of course, but not too much waste and the results are spectacular imo.

you never printed it as intended. you said the first one was cut down to 5mm thick. that automatically takes away from the layers that do the image. As you can see from my test print, when printed unedited, it prints fine. When you decrease the thickness you are also decreasing the thickness of the image layers.
