This is a modern geometric “M” wall art piece designed as a modular 3D-printed assembly with integrated color inlay trays. The structural frame prints in four separate sections, allowing for easier printing and precise assembly without sacrificing the final appearance.
The frame sections are aligned and glued together using included alignment pins. All assembly seams are intentionally concealed within the geometric surface design on the face, resulting in a clean, continuous architectural look once assembled.
The accent areas also serve as the color inserts. These thin tray-style inserts press into the frame, hiding all mounting hardware while adding visual contrast. Inserts may be installed as-printed or optionally filled with epoxy to achieve the high-gloss inlay effect shown.
Key Features
- 4-part modular frame with pin-and-glue assembly
- Alignment pins included for accurate positioning
- Seams hidden by geometric face detailing
- Color inserts double as accent inlays
- Hidden wall-mount hardware (press-fit inserts conceal screws)
- Designed as decorative architectural wall art
Surface Finish
The visible face of the frame is designed to be printed using an
octagram spiral top-face pattern, producing the faceted geometric texture shown in the photos.
This texture is intentional and helps visually disguise assembly seams while adding depth and character to the design.
Assembly Overview
- Print the four frame sections
- Align and glue the sections together using the included pins
- Mount the assembled frame to the wall using wall anchors (Get anchors and screws Here: https://max3ddesign.com/#homemisc)
- Secure with screws (fully recessed into the frame)
- Press in the color inserts to hide all hardware
- Optional: fill the inserts with epoxy before installation for a glossy inlay finish
Epoxy Overview
I used Crystal clear epoxy and mica powder to create the purple inserts. Just mixed up, poured into tray inserts until level, and let dry.
Materials Used
- Frame: PLA (matte black shown)
- Color inserts / inlays: Printed separately (purple shown)
- Finish: Optional epoxy fill for inserts
