Simson SR50 / SR80 High-Flow Air Filter Set Stage 1

Description

This 3D print set is the solution for all SR50/SR80 riders who are converting to Mikuni VM20 or VM24 carburetors. The original intake path is far too restrictive for these carburetor sizes. My design optimizes the entire volume of the airbox to provide the engine with the necessary air volume for perfect performance.

Features & Compatibility

  • Optimized for Mikuni: Specifically designed for use with Mikuni VM20 and VM24 carburetors.
  • Maximum throughput: Ideal for tuning cylinders (e.g., 60cc, 70cc, 85cc+) that require stable air supply.
  • Stable mixture formation: Prevents "over-fueling" at high RPMs due to insufficient air.

Important Installation Notes (Modification required)

This set is not a mere "spare part" but a conversion kit. For installation, the following work on the original air filter housing is absolutely necessary

 

Print Recommendations & Material Selection

The correct material selection is crucial for the longevity and function of the set. Since the parts are exposed to fuel vapors, vibrations, and engine heat, I recommend the following configuration:

  • Main Housing / Adapter Plates:
    • Material: ASA or PETG (due to fuel and heat resistance).
    • Wall lines: At least 4 layers for absolute airtightness.
    • Do not use PLA, as it softens with engine heat!
  • Carburetor Flange (Connecting sleeve):

    • Material: TPU
    • Important: The flange must be printed from flexible TPU. This is the only way to ensure a vibration-decoupled and 100% sealed connection to the Mikuni VM20/24.
    • Advantage: The TPU seals directly at the carburetor without an additional rubber sleeve and is resistant to vibrations that could otherwise lead to cracks in the material.

     

     

     

    Legal Notice: This conversion invalidates the operating license according to StVZO. Only suitable for racing or show purposes. The carburetor (main jet) must be re-tuned after installation.
