Description

This model is a comprehensive remix of the classic Flipbook Box, re-designed for better performance and durability. While inspired by the original concept, I have introduced several significant mechanical and structural upgrades to transform it into a professional-grade kinetic sculpture.

Key Improvements:

  • Extended Body: The entire model has been lengthened to provide a more stable base and better visual proportions.
  • Reinforced Structure: Added a dedicated back panel to the enclosure, significantly increasing the rigidity of the box and protecting the internals from the dust entering from the back.
  • Triple Ball Bearings: For ultra-smooth, "frictionless" operation, I've added three rolling bearings:
    • Two bearings supporting the main internal shaft.
    • One bearing inside the crank handle knob for maximum comfort during rotation.
  • Redesigned Drive System: The assembly method has been completely overhauled. I changed the mounting and securing for the rosettes on the shaft and the shaft itself, now utilizing a screw-based fastening instead of simple press-fits.

Printing Tips:

  • Filament: PLA or PETG.
  • Layer Height: 0.2mm for the box, 0.12mm - 0.16mm for the gears and crank for smoother operation.
  • Infill: 15-20% Gyroid for strength.

Additional parts:

  • Bearings (3 pcs): any MR128ZZ bearing will do fine.
  • Screws (6 pcs): model is optimised for 2,5x6 BHCS bolts from BambuLab to fit their heads width. You can use any similar screw (like 3x6) but mind that you will have to adjust the housing for the screw head.

Additional info:

  • Printing the cards: 
    • Cards for the photos/drawings were kept intact, so you can either use the ones from this model's printing profile or from the original creator's one.
  • Cutting the photos:
    • You can use the Photo Trimming & Alignment Tool print profile to make the cuts easier with it
