Description

The Hexaclone is a heavy duty single stage dust separator designed for dust extraction in a shop or jobsite environment. Ideal for  frequent or prolonged use woodworking tools to prevent clogging vacuum filters.

 

This model is fully 3D printed with minimal supports NO HARDWARE REQUIRED.

 

The geometry of each cyclone was optimized for high efficiency transfer allowing it to handle extremely fine particles. By using 6 cyclones in parallel, the efficiency is maintained while significantly increasing volumetric throughput. All of the testing was performed with a 6.5 hp (181 CFM) Shop Vac which was no problem for it.

 

Requires

a flat lid surface for mounting (between 1/16" and 3/16" thick)
Dust Intake hose with an ID approximately 1.5"
An adapter to fit vacuum connector
Note: You will need to make an adaptor to match the vacuum connector to your particular vacuum hose end. The OD of the connector is 1.25". I will upload the 2.25" adaptor that works with my Rigid Vac.

 

The Hexaclone prints in 4 parts

  1. Main Body
  2. Cones
  3. Vortex Breakers
  4. Vacuum Connector

All elements have 3d printed threaded connections, no seals required. This design allows for the unit to be easily disassembled for cleaning or to remove any oversized debris. The threaded connection between the cones and the vortex breakers secures the unit to the container lid.

2/10 if your planning on using it for wood, i hooked it up to my wood plainer and after a full run through i had more sawdust and wood chips in my shop vac then in my bucket. it had also clogged 4 of the vortex things again. not sure if this is just my experience or if this is a common occurrence. also you may need to re orient the parts so that the threads don’t just tear off on you, i have had 3 do that so far. in addition if anyone knows of a good duct collector for wood please let me know because i have not found one yet.

it was a good effort and i really like the design but it needs some work, maybe have larger holes that feed into the dust catcher and a way to pull the dust or chips through so they don’t get gummed up and clog it

This is awesome looking. How is the overall pressure loss compared to off the shelf options? I currently use the low-profile orange Home Depot bucket top separator and there is significant loss in vacuum and airflow.

If I'm honest, most of my data from testing is anecdotal, but i did not perceive there to be as much as i had expected. I am looking to do some more quantifiable tests soon.

I’m having too much fun printing these! Only thing was concerning is the threads in main body part, they were without supports and few spots were bit ruined. Printing the second one ;)

nice, can you design one that uses the full 2.25 inch hose. i dont like reducing anything down.
