Multicolor Honey Bee with translucent wings
Print Profile(1)

Description
Add a buzz of life to your space with this ultra-realistic 3D Printed Honey Bee. Designed with anatomical accuracy and aesthetic appeal in mind, this model captures the iconic look of nature's hardest worker. Whether you're building a DIY hive display, decorating a classroom, or adding flair to your houseplants, these bees are the perfect fit.
The model is split into two distinct parts to maximize realism: a vibrant multi-color body and thin, translucent wings. By printing the wings separately in transparent filament, you avoid the "blocky" look of traditional figurines and achieve a beautiful light-catching effect.
Why print a swarm? Bees are social creatures and belong in a colony! I highly recommend printing 5–10 bees at a time. This not only creates an impressive "swarm" effect for your display but also optimizes your multi-color printing. By printing multiple bodies at once, you significantly reduce the amount of filament waste (poop) generated during color changes, making the process much more efficient.

Printing Instructions
The Body (Black & Yellow)
- Material: PLA (Black and Yellow)
- Supports: Required. Caution: The antennae are delicate. Take your time removing the support material.
- Pro-Tip: Use a hot air gun or hairdryer to gently warm the supports near the antennae before removal; they will peel away much easier without snapping the detail.
- Layer Height: 0.16mm (Optimal for the curved stripes of the abdomen; I printed in 0.20mm since the bee was meant as a one time decoration, also in my images you might see a little layer shift on the top of the body, my poop chute was clogged up from filament, but since it is hardly noticeable I still didn't see the need to reprint the bees).
The Wings (Transparent)
- Material: Transparent/Clear PLA (or PETG).
- Adhesion: A Brim is highly recommended to keep the wings flat and secure.
- Clean-up: Carefully peel off the brim and use a hobby knife to smooth any remaining edges.
Assembly
- Locate the mounting slot on the upper thorax of the bee.
- Slide the wings into the body.
- Pro-Tip: If the fit is very tight, use a hot air gun to briefly warm the slot on the black body. This expands the plastic slightly, allowing the wings to slide in and "lock" into place as the plastic cools and contracts.
