Admittedly pushing DIY too far, but the kids love it, so it's okay.
This is a collection of parts designed to upcycle the fence/spindles from an IKEA Gulliver kid’s bed/crib. Instead of storing the fence or throwing it out, I cut it up and used these printed parts to patch it onto a new setup (a bunk bed with IKEA Trofast stairs).
Basically: Cut the Gulliver fence into pieces and use these printed brackets to mount them somewhere else to create safety rails.
The 3 Families of Parts
1. Bar Fixations: These are the sockets that hold the vertical spindles (dowels).
- Compatibility: Designed for 16.5mm diameter dowels (standard Gulliver spindle size).
- Mounting: Fixed using long wood screws.
- Variations included:
- Straight Mounts: (3 versions) For vertical safety rails on the bed frame.
- 45-Degree Angle Mounts: (2 versions) Specifically designed to fit the steps of IKEA Trofast units without blocking the bins sliding out. To mirror in slicer based on your setup.
- Note: All variations have an alignment lip for easier mounting.
2. Top Fixation Parts: These parts utilize the existing fixation system/geometry of the Gulliver upper rail to attach the top of the fence to your new wooden structure (bed frame or whatever).
3. Additional Blockers & Spacers: Various small clips/wedges used to lock your “Frankenbed” together or align the frames while keeping the whole system semi-modular and possible to dismantle.
Instructions / Notes
- Source Material: You need an IKEA Gulliver fence to sacrifice. Which… means more than it seems ^^ I'll let you think about it.
- Hardware: Requires standard small/long wood screws (length depends on what you are screwing into).
- Print Settings: As solid as possible! 100 walls, 100% infill
I don't necessarily expect anyone to download this model, but I am currently cataloging every project I’ve done around the house with 3D printing... because OCD.
Hope it helps someone anyway!
