The Evolution of 3D Printed Bookmarks: Mastering the FLAT Concept

The rules of the game have changed. Thanks to the FLAT technique, we have finally reached the "holy grail" of functional printing: bookmarks that are completely smooth on both sides.

Why does the FLAT concept change everything?

The magic has always lied in creating images with physical depth based on light transmission and color. However, for a bookmark, relief is the enemy.

  • Goodbye to relief: No more "plastic mountains" that leave marks on the pages of your favorite books.
  • Build Plate: It is recommended to use smooth build plates or those with special effects, such as Diamond, Starry, or Galaxy. You can also try the satin finish of Smooth plates. However, a magnificent finish can also be achieved using the standard textured plate.
  • Premium Finish: The feel is professional, similar to a high-end commercial bookmark.
  • Intact Detail: Despite removing the physical topography, we preserve much of the detail and color richness. It is a perfect optical illusion trapped in plastic.

Technical Requirements

  1. AMS is mandatory here because the technique requires injecting different colors into the same layer.
  2. The use of Transparent PLA  is vital.

3D printed bookmarks have evolved from a clunky novelty into functional art. The FLAT concept allows us to create pieces that are as pleasing to the touch as they are to the eye. It’s time for your books to have the companion they deserve.
