3D Miniature of the Stadium of Light
Model Information:
The Stadium of Light in Sunderland, England, has been the proud home of Sunderland AFC ("The Black Cats") since 1997 and is one of England's largest stadiums.
- Industrial Heritage: The stadium was built on the site of the former coal mine Monkwearmouth Colliery. The name "Stadium of Light" is a direct tribute to the miners' lamps.
- The "Davy Lamp" Memorial: An oversized Davy lamp (safety mining lamp) stands in front of the stadium entrance to commemorate the city's mining past and working class.
- Capacity: With around 49,000 seats, it is one of the highest-capacity stadiums in English football (often larger than many Premier League stadiums, even though the club often played in the Championship or League One).
- Atmosphere: Before matches, "Prokofiev's Dance of the Knights" (known as "Montagues and Capulets") traditionally plays, creating a very dramatic and intimidating atmosphere.
- Predecessor: It replaced the historic Roker Park, which was the club's home for almost 100 years.
