Mijwiz Body & Connector

This 3D model is the body & connector of a 5-hole Mijwiz woodwind instrument (chanter and reed are not included). Links and guidance for compatible parts can be found further down in the description. It was modeled from images and measurements from multiple sources.

You may need to adjust the hole sizes on the pipes to achieve the correct pitch (bigger hole = higher pitch), as Mijwiz hole sizes vary on every instrument, and I had limited filament to test.

The chanter this model is meant for is the Swedish_Bagpipes_Carbon_Reeds_Chanter_Reed_Low_AD.stl, available here.

Tips for assembly and testing:

• Removing supports:
  If you have trouble removing support material from the small connector piece, use 2 Q-tips: push down one connector hole, then switch to the next.
• Fitting the reeds:
  If the chanters do not fit into the connectors, carefully sand or drill the reed holes slightly larger. Remove material gradually and test the fit often.
• Loose chanter fit:
  If the chanter fits too loosely (either due to print tolerances or sanding too much), wrap the base of the chanter with tape to tighten the fit. This also allows for easier adjustment and tuning.
• DIY reed construction:
  For a DIY reed, use a thin piece of plastic approximately 4 mm wide and 3.5 cm long. Secure it to the chanter using a rubber band. The plastic should be slightly bent upward to allow vibration.
• Initial tuning check:
  Each chanter should produce approximately D4 when blown on its own. If it does not, adjust the reed carefully by:
  • slightly bending the plastic,
  • trimming a very small amount from it, or
  • adjusting the tightness of the rubber band.
