For best results, I recommend using clear PLA for the outer shell and glow-in-the-dark PLA for the inner core. This is exactly the combination I used to print the sample you see in the photos.
I first made this design back in 2017, long before I ever touched 3D software. It was shaped entirely by hand. At the time, I used a clear resin shell with a glow powder resin core inside, then spent hours finishing the surface by hand until it had that soft, matte smoothness I love.
Now I’ve brought the design back to life in 3D, mainly so I can share it with you in a form that’s easy to print and easy to use. I also shortened the overall length so it can be printed comfortably on smaller machines with a 256 mm build plate. For the clear outer shell, I intentionally avoided using infill, letting the glow from the inner core shine through more cleanly. Instead, it’s printed vertically with multiple wall layers to keep the structure strong and solid.
The idea itself is very simple. It came from the loading bar you see on a computer screen. I made two versions for you to choose from: one at 69% loading, and one at 100% loading, where the core is fully glow-filled. When I have more time, I’ll update additional sizes as well. This release is designed specifically for TKL keyboards.
