Nestguard Book Counter

Nestguard Book Counter is a cute, chibi-style dragon designed to help track the books you read throughout the year. Sitting upright and protectively around an empty nest, the dragon “guards” your progress as you place or update eggs in the nest for each completed book.

The nest contains three embedded magnets, while each of the six eggs used as markers has a single magnet embedded in its flattened base. Together, this allows the eggs to be held securely in place, making it easy to add or remove them while keeping the display neat and intentional. The dragon’s curled claws hang over the rim of the nest, and its folded wings and rounded features give it a friendly, desk-worthy presence perfect for book lovers and reading challenges.

Printing Notes

• Designed for FDM printers
• Supports required (recommended under the arms/claws and wings)
• Not scaling-friendly due to magnet fit and tolerances designed into the model
• Uses 9 magnets total (3 mm × 5 mm)
  • 3 magnets in the nest
  • 1 magnet in each of the 6 eggs
• Designed as a single display size for best fit and appearance

📌 Magnet Installation & Polarity Notes

This model uses 6 eggs as markers, each with one magnet embedded in the flattened base.

The nest itself contains 3 embedded magnets, which are used to hold the eggs securely in place.

🔹 Important: Magnet polarity matters. Before gluing, dry-fit all magnets to ensure the eggs are attracted to the nest magnets (and not repelled).

🔹 I recommend installing the nest magnets first, then using one of them to set the correct polarity for all egg magnets.

🔹 A small amount of super glue or epoxy works well for installation.

Please follow the modeled magnet size and placement for best fit and function.

This is my very first model, and I want to thank you for taking the time to download and print it out. While I did use some AI generation, I also spent a lot of time in Tinkercad adding chamfers and tolerances to help ensure the magnets fit just right, as well as the egg design and the bookstack to give it a comfy feel.

1/19/2026 Update:

Added new v2 of the 3mf and the Nestguard_Book_Counter stl files to include additional magnet slots by the dragon's tail to hold the 3 unused eggs. This will prevent spare eggs from getting lost, or continually falling.
