Description

Boost Me (for free)

I design tools to fix real-world problems as I find them. If this model was useful to you, a boost is a great way to say thanks and help me create more!

I designed these replacement pads because I was in the middle of a stained glass project and my Silberschnitt glass cutting running pliers pads gave out. I needed a fix ASAP and couldn't wait for shipping.

If you have the time, the original manufacturer parts are great and usually cost around $10. You can find them on Amazon, eBay, or glass supply shops like SW Art Glass, and Mongo's Art Glassville (these are all US-based websites, not sure if they ship internationally). However, if you need a working tool now, this 3D printable aftermarket set can save your project :)

Printing Guide

  • Top Jaw: This component is critical. The "teeth" must be soft for the pliers to work as designed by Silberschnitt.
    • “Teeth”: Use TPU for the “teeth” (I used Bambu Lab 85A, but any TPU should work).
    • Rigid Backing: For the upper part of the head, you can use a rigid material.
      • I strongly recommend PETG over PLA. PLA does not bond well with the TPU. Even with interlocking settings enabled TPU can peel off at the edges from PLA. PETG holds up much better.
  • Bottom Jaw: Print in PETG, or any other rigid material. NOT TPU!
    • PLA is OK for the bottom jaw.

Slicer Settings

  • I used “100 walls” to force 100% infill for maximum durability. If you find the TPU teeth are too stiff for your needs, try reducing the wall count and infill density to make them softer. However, I don't think this is necessary even for hard TPU like “TPU for AMS”.
  • The model is “true to size”, but due to material shrinking, I scaled it up to 105%, and it fits perfectly!
