Dougong—the essential component of traditional Chinese timber-frame architecture, formed by an intricate interplay of bucket-shaped blocks and bow-shaped brackets, serving both structural and decorative functions
Structurally, dougong are placed between the column tops and beam frames, distributing roof loads to the columns. They also absorb seismic energy through their mortise and tenon joints, embodying the earthquake-resistant wisdom of "walls may fall, but the house stands"
Aesthetically, the layered contours of dougong imbue buildings with a dynamic elegance of upturned eaves, commonly seen in palaces, temples, and garden architecture. From the grand styles of the Tang Dynasty to the delicate forms of the Song Dynasty, and then to the intricate designs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, their evolving forms testify to a millennium of development in Chinese architectural art, remaining the most recognizable symbol of traditional Chinese architecture today
This model is based on the research findings of Professor Pan Dehua, aiming to introduce more people to the beauty of Chinese architecture through 3D printing, while also fostering children's hands-on abilities.This model requires no glue and can be disassembled and reassembled multiple times.
Considering that some types of dou are quite small and might be damaged during assembly, I have included extra pieces in the print files. Please refer to the images below for details
