This ammonite hide is a decorative and functional design element for aquariums and terrariums, visually inspired by a fossil ammonite, giving it a very natural, primeval character.

Design & Appearance

The hide is spiral-shaped, with finely crafted grooves and layer lines reminiscent of real fossils. The surface looks stone-like and slightly weathered, allowing it to blend harmoniously into natural aquarium and terrarium landscapes – especially in biotope layouts with rock or desert themes. The opening is generously designed, while the interior offers protection and darkness.

Function in Aquariums

In the aquarium, the ammonite hide serves as a retreat, territorial boundary, and stress reducer for many animal species:
• Ideal for dwarf cichlids, catfish, shrimp, crabs, and small bottom-dwelling fish
• Particularly suitable for Malawi, Tanganyika, or South American tanks
• Can be used as a spawning site or sleeping cave
• The structured surface promotes light algae and biofilm growth, which is particularly beneficial for shrimp

The material is water-neutral and does not affect water parameters, making it suitable for sensitive aquarium inhabitants.

Use in Terrariums

The ammonite hide is also versatile in terrariums:
• As a cave or shelter for reptiles, amphibians, spiders, or insects
• Offers protection from light and drafts and supports natural behavior
• Ideal for desert, savannah, or forest terrariums due to its natural stone look
• Can be partially buried or integrated into rock formations

Practical Features
• Stable and sturdy

Conclusion

The ammonite hide is not only an optical highlight but also a species-appropriate, functional hide for many aquarium and terrarium animals. It combines natural aesthetics with practical benefits and is excellently suited for owners who value realistic and animal-friendly design.

turned out good. but it does float. I used a heavy rock to keep it down.

Not exactly wat is was designed for, but still fun to make. In case you are wondering, it is a can holder. The ammonite raises the can so 330ml cans fit the holder instead off 500ml.
