The Supreme Secret Method: Seventy-two Talismans for Guarding the Home
Recorded in the Taoist Canon, 'The Supreme Secret Method: Seventy-two Talismans for Guarding the Home', this set of spiritual talismans served as the protective treasure used in the Hall of Supreme Harmony of the Imperial Forbidden City. They can be freely combined and varied according to the annual changes in the year's fortune, and in Xuanmen (Taoist mysticism), they can also be used for divination, channeling, cultivation, invoking deities, bringing blessings, praying for disaster relief, prolonging life, curing illness, and other purposes.
During the major renovation of the Beijing Forbidden City in 2004, this set of spiritual talismans was discovered above the central caisson ceiling of the Hall of Supreme Harmony. It was the protective treasure of the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City and was also known as the 'Number One Talisman under Heaven'. These seventy-two ancient talismanic diagrams, representing various celestial gods and star lords, collectively form a divine talisman. Moreover, this set of talismans is actually arranged according to the Nine Palaces, with each palace governed by an Eight Trigram, totaling seventy-two talismans. They correspond to the 360-degree celestial cycle, moving five degrees at a time, aligning with the seventy-two micro-seasons, subtly conforming to the profound mysteries of heaven and earth.
