Description

If you've come here, you've probably have bought 250g spools of dikale filament off of Amazon such as this Silk Triple Color PLA.

You may have also tried to use this in the AMS, including (but not limited to):

  • Respooling onto an existing spool
  • Weighing down the spool and hoping it can pull the filament without rollers
  • Using other adapters that didn't quite fit (because dikale's cardboard cutout is different than the rest)

No matter how you got here, I made an adapter that fits the spools perfectly. This design uses the side tabs on the cardboard spool to lock in on the adapter and prevent false turns.

The spool is easily removable when you're ready to switch spools. You only need one adapter (not one per spool!)

The inner hole is also wide enough to accommodate most spool desiccant holders, for either added weight or moisture removal.

Usage

There are two pieces that snap together over the existing spool--no need to remove any of the cardboard.

To assemble:

  1. Put the bottom piece on a flat surface.
  2. Slide the spool over the bottom shaft, aligning the tabs on the adapter to the slots on the cardboard spool. There should be no gap in between. (UPDATE 2026-02-01: Added pictures to show tab locations and alignment to slots)
  3. Slide the top piece over the bottom shaft. It should slide into place and be loose but not come off automatically. Align the tabs to the slots again.

Unfortunately, it didn't fit properly with my dicale 250g spool, so I taped it down with double-sided tape

Can you add a picture of how it does not fit?

the slots on the inside of the adapter are meant to snap into the slot grooves on the roll. The tabs are behind the brand name. For that picture rotate the piece counterclockwise and it should fit in. I’ll try to post a pic of it.
